4-H Youth Development
4-H is a youth organization committed to building outstanding leaders with marketable skills to succeed in today’s global society. 4-H empowers youth to reach their full potential, working and learning in partnership with caring adults.
What is 4-H?
4-H Youth Development is part of Kentucky Cooperative Extension. Extension’s mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of Kentucky citizens through non-formal education for the entire family. Extension agents and volunteers take the results of university research and explain it in such a way that different age groups can learn and apply the information to their own lives. Kentucky 4-H believes in providing positive youth development experiences that all youth to experience belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity.

Paws & Claws 4-H Club Meeting Minutes
Date: January 21st 2025 Time: 6:02 pm Location: Meade County 4-H extension office
Officers: President: Grant. Secretary: Jadon. Treasurer: Hannah.
Pledges: American and 4-H pledges were recited.
Roll Call: Attendance was called by Jadon.
Old Business:
- We made cards to send off to a nursing home.
- We made ornaments.
- We voted on a club name.
- Small animal club was renamed to “Paws and Claws”
New Business:
- We talked about the avian flu, and the “first recorded human death from avian flu”.
- We talked about rabbit and chicken outside housing for different types of weather.
- We talked about rabbit diseases, parasites, injuries, and bio-security measures.
- Tina talked about rabbit first aid kits and how to make one.
- Kris talked about chicken first aid kits and how to make one.
- We talked about chicken diseases, parasites, injuries, and bio-security measures.
- We talked about upcoming rabbit and chicken showmanship practice meetings.
- We also discussed a new date for a fundraiser event, tentatively March 1st.

The Meade County 4-H Small Animal (rabbit & poultry) Club is hosting their first annual soup supper on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at the Meade County Extension Office.
Tickets are ONLY $5 per person and are on sale NOW! You can purchase yours by stopping by the office at 1041 Old Ekron Rd, Brandenburg. Only 100 tickets are being sold on a first-come basis.
Your ticket will get you a bowl of chicken noodle or butternut squash soup (you choose at ticket purchase), a side of bread, a beverage and dessert. This is a great deal and will be helping a GREAT club!
All proceeds will go to help the 4-H Small Animal Club purchase educational items for their club and to assist with awards and banners during their show at the 2025 Meade County Fair!
State Level Information
How does 4-H benefit youth?
4-H’ers, regardless of their background, socio-economic status, race or gender, benefit from their participation in Kentucky 4-H. Positive youth development studies have affirmed that compared to other youth, young people involved in 4-H are:
- Four times more likely to contribute to their communities.
- Two times more likely to be civically active.
- Two times more likely to make healthier lifestyle choices.
- Two times more likely to participate in Science, Engineering and Computer Technology programs during out-of-school time.
- 4-H girls are two times more likely (Grade 10) and nearly three times more likely (Grade 12) to take part in science programs compared to girls in other out-of-school time activities.
